  • instagram.com/p/BOCznL4jcCZ About to go see #StarWars #RogueOne (wish me luck cause Force Awakens was a stinker)! Been a fan since the early 80s, the illustration here drawn in 1996 for Star Walking Inc, Australia's premier SW fanzine. Almost a decade before this scene was enacted in Epis.III Revenge of The Sith, I depicted the fight between Obi Wan and Anakin on the volcano planet (as described in the original 1977 novelisation). The style is quite naive, but I was pretty spot on!

The concept behind this illustration for my upcoming graphic novel TALES OF THE SMITHS was "what would The Smiths look like if they formed the band in 1977 and not 1982". ___________________ It is with great sorrow that I announce that my sequel to Giant-Size Fascists will not be published by the newspaper Efimerida ton Syntakton, as the editors not only didn't agree with the political content of the story but also crucially and unforgivably didn't have any sense of humour whatsoever.

I began researching and drawing this first book in 2008 and its first chapter was a First Fictions finalist in the UK in 2011. I self-published said first chapter in 2012 and subsequently began serialising it online in 2015 until the present at SoComic. The final book will be published by Markosia Press. • DRYLAND Book one///Chapter one (2012) My graphic novel DRYLAND Book one, will be released in 2015 by Markosia Publications. The books narrate the tragic deaths of most of my ancestors in Interwar rural Greece (Book one specifically narrates the death of my Great-Grandmother as retold by my Grandfather). It seems that the book has shamefully created a series of imitators in Greece and a bunch of "creators" have gone on to narrate the stories of their grandparents (most, coincidentally, set in the Interwar) in a graphic novel format; it's a shame and has totally put me off showing previews of any projects I come up with from now on and is another small step distancing me away from that country's scene. A brief history of DRYLAND: I self-published Chapter one and presented it at Mark Millar's Kapow Con in 2012, just as I'd moved to the UK, whilst it also was a finalist of the original First Fictions competition held in the same year. Since then I have distributed Chapter one at various comic book stores in the UK and Greece. The self-publication also contained the first Tales of The Smiths episode ever published. The whole book (including all chapters) will be collected by Markosia Publications in 2015. To purchase the first chapter, which I self-published in 2012 (DRYLAND Book one///Chapter one), click the below link: www.conchrisoulis.bigcartel.com

  • RIP Aggelos Mastorakis. He was mighty keen on censorship, prone towards outright favouritism and gave me a hard time as an editor, scarcely publishing my submissions from 2001-2005, but the truth remains that the magazine did a great job featuring new unknown artists in the emerging greek comics scene. In this story, commissioned by Mastorakis for the 200th issue of the weekly anthology in 2004, I drew the 9 milestones in the history of comics, depicting the editor-in-chief in the final panel, as I designated 9 magazine as the 9th milestone.

You can order it here: jemmacomics.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=802 This beauty is a comicbook called Giant Size Fascists (which consists of ..basically psycho fascist Greek superheroes). Having been fedup with the rising far right assholes in this country back in 2003, I decided to mix my love for 60s and 70s Silver Age comics and my hatred for fascism and produced this comicbook in 2007. It garnered the "Comicbook of The Year Award" at the 2008 Comicdom Convention (as voted by the public), so I guess some folks dug it! Obviously, this cover is my warped take of the Silver Age cover of "The Incredible Hulk" #1 (1962) by Jack Kirby More info: http://www.conchrisoulis.com/Comics/2006-2010_Post-Greek_Indie_Scene/Giant-Size_Fascists.html

All the stories were also going to be exhibited in the Babel comic book store. I was heavily into my autobio comics phase at that point and instantly remembered this story from my days as a video rental clerk.

  • this is too '90s... Just found this in the dark spaces of my hard drive. I drew this promo piece 15 years ago, in 1998, for my personal comic book anthology/zine, 'Tales of Unsurpassed Vanity'. Two years later, I managed to save up and self-publish the first issue of the anthology (which ran for 10 issues). Each issue had several short stories and a continuing 'teen vampire vs teen werewolves' epic, called 'Jazz & Maria', which I created years before Underworld or Twilight were even conceived. Like wow! Hand-coloured cover for an unpublished prophetic comic I made in 1997 about a tribe of antiestablishment 'punks' that fight a corporate-controlled EU, led by the corrupt Director and his EUSS (European Union Super Soldiers). I drew it whilst serving a really tedious mandatory army duty on the Greek borders). #EU #Greece #Punk #GraphicNovel #Comics #90s

This year marks the 20th anniversary from my first self-published comic, CLANS, which ran for three issues from 1996-1997 in Melbourne, Australia. What a totally '90s trigger happy Liefieldesque cover, eh? I'll be celebrating by retouching and slowly rereleasing ALL my classic material from the past two decades, starting in spring! Keep yer eyes peeled! #clans #selfpublished #selfpublishing #comics #graphicnovel #melbourne #australia #indie #independent #comic #illustration #conchrisoulis #20years #1996 #liefield #robliefield #deadpool #cable #90s #nineties #classic

  • 1996. The Craft. This sketch has a June 27th, 1996 date on it. I really liked that film (it kinda had a John Hughes meets Hellraiser vibe to it) and it seems really weird that nowadays it's referenced retrospectively for its style. I feel old! On top I had some notes about a goth comics series I wanted to make called Elysian Fields, which would recall The Craft's vibe. This is another '90s sketch that I found in a huge box of forgotten originals at my folks' home in Western Greece. #TheCraft #90s #nineties #1990s #Craft #Horror #Illustration #Comics

  • 1995. I created the Winter Soldier. Sure, it's an overstatement, but I did send an 8-page submission to Marvel, when I was in my late teens, in which Bucky Barnes returns to haunt Captain America as a long-haired, one-cybernetic-armed assassin, wearing an updated uniform that resembled his original costume. Eerie! (I just found this beauty in a huge box of forgotten originals at my folks' home in Western Greece). #ThrowbackThursday #Marvel #WinterSoldier #CaptainAmerica #BuckyBarnes #Comics Steve Epting Ed Brubaker

  • This is either genius or insane. Did David Lynch on TWIN PEAKS swipe Alan Moore's THE KILLING JOKE? I just realised this whilst watching a rerun of Twin Peaks season 2 episode 5. Bear in mind that the two stories were created within just a span of two years from each other (Twin Peaks season 2 started filming even earlier than that) and Moore's "at last some mature themes in comics" approach had started grabbing a lot of headlines by this point. You might ask how exactly did that scene ring such a familiar bell to me... Well, I swiped it myself in 1989 for a comic I used to draw as a kid called Tarantula!
